Rumblings about the inclusion of a national renewable energy standard (RES) continue in Washington, D.C.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., recently said he may include one in a scaled-back energy bill that is pending before Congress when it returns from its recess next week. The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) immediately jumped in to support the move. AWEA and Reid in the recent past have disputed the count of committed senators needed to bring a vote to the floor.
The topic again was raised this week at Reid's National Clean Energy Summit 3.0 held in his home state of Nevada. He previously said two Republican senators have expressed interest in the RES, but he didn't identify them.
The lack of Congressional action this year on the RES, and any other energy issues for that matter, is the subject of this week's RenewablesBiz Quick Poll.
Congress returns to Washington, D.C., on Monday, but the fall election will limit its number of working days. So if the votes exist, bring the issue to the floor once and for all, please.
